StartUp Health is excited to announce that Morgenthaler Ventures and Health 2.0 are hosting the 4th annual DC to VC Startup Showcase, where we look for the most innovative health IT startups across America to compete in a pitchfest on stage. This year’s contest will be held on Monday, September 30, 2013, the first day of the annual Health 2.0 Conference. There is an open call for all digital health and health IT startups (seed stage and series A) to apply. Any U.S. based startup who has raised $3M or less in funding is eligible to apply. Applications are open from July 15 to August 26, 2013. Eight (8) finalists will be selected out of the pool of applicants to present on a stage with VCs and judges from provider, payor, and self-insured employer organizations.
Last year’s Series A judges’ choice winner was the StartUp Health company Beyond Lucid Technologies and the Series A people’s choice winner was the StartUp Health company CarePlanners.

New Format
This year the contest will employ a subtle twist. Rather than having Venture Capitalists judge the contest, we are asking each VC to participate in the contest to offer their industry knowledge. So many VCs get to sit behind the table and listen to entrepreneurs pitch for money, but startups never really get to benefit from their expertise or market sizing skills. This new model will pair VC team captains with finalists for a deeper opportunity to mentor startups on and off stage.

There will be an $8,000 cash prize for the winner and additional cash and in-kind prizes (free legal and public relations and recruiting services) will be announced at a later date.
